Approaching Malahide Estuary

Boats should approach the Landfall or Fairway Buoy from the seaward side. It is in approximate position Lat.53 27 101, Long. 06 06 811 and carries red and white markings. Then follow the channel in approximately a westerly direction passing between the red and green markers. There are extensive shallow sandbanks on either side. Once inside keep close to the larger moored sailing yachts and proceed until the marina entrance opens ahead. Alternatively, moorings may be rented from Mr. Billy Hatch whose house is to the right at the top of the concrete slip beyond the Malahide Yacht Club premises.

Caution:     Those not familiar with the entrance should ensure there is sufficient depth for their craft having regard to the state of the tide and special care should be exercised in strong easterlies. Malahide Marina office may be contacted for information.

Speeding in the estuary

Apart from being discourteous it is forbidden and will make you unpopular. Excessive wash will cause discomfort and possibly injury to persons on board moored craft and put children on the beaches in danger.

Malahide Marina offers an extensive range of services for boat owners, including a 30 tonne travel hoist with a mast stepping facility and a fueling dock. There are also toilets, showers and laundry facilities.

Malahide Yacht Club, overlooking the estuary on the south side, extends a warm welcome to visiting sailors and is open from 20.00 hrs. Tuesday to Thursday, from 19.00 hrs on Fridays and from 16.00 hrs. on Saturdays and Sundays. An attractive menu is available on Friday nights from 18.00 – 21.00 hrs. However, it is advisable to be there early to be sure of a table.

Malahide has an extensive range of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs, shops and churches. Internet facilities are available at the public library in the village centre.

There are good train and bus services to Dublin city centre with journey times of about 35 mins.on train and 60 mins on bus. There is also a bus service to Dublin Airport about 7 km distant. Taxis are available in the centre of the village.
