The Rockabill Rally this year was moved forward to June from May which proved a good decision as we got champagne sailing on the Irish sea. With the TW wind setting at 0 95 deg, 10 knots of wind with 10 minutes to the start the sailors were settling in to a good long fetch . . .however as with the Irish sea we had a major wind shift which turned the sail to the Rockabill into an excellent beat pushing against at times 2 knots of tide. On rounding the rock with the wind setting at 0 48 deg and the tide running south at 1.6 knots we made our way back to the Malahide safe water mark.
On return to the Marina where we were greeted with temperatures of 25 deg
Focuz invited the crews from Mon Reve and Kahera on board for a pre-dinner drink. Afterwards we retired to MYC – STJ. Great food supplied by Kyles Catering was very welcome when we came a shore and the prize giving.
Focuz was the winner of the 2018 Rockabill rally
Focuz was sailed by Zenda Bills and Ciaran O Reilly who showed exceptional sailing skills to guide Focuz to the Rock with the conditions encountered on the way .
The J24s came out crewed by the young sailors from Broadmeadows. Big thanks to our Vice-Commodore Dan Flavin and also to JAO Therese for making this happened .
Thanks also to Anne Molly and her committee for organising a delicious meal, Margaret Fay for the excellent photography both on and off the water and of course the 54 sailors who took part in the event .
