Information Sheets / Policy Documents

As a family-friendly club, MYC has developed a range of policies to ensure the safety and well-being of the Junior Members in particular.

The most up-to-date versions of these policies – such as Code of Conduct and Bullying – as well as other useful information sheets are available to read and download from the Club Forms section of this website.

Cara na Mara

Cara Na Mara is the ISA’s sailing programme for 7 – 10 year olds. It provides a child centred approach to introducing children to sailing and the marine environment. The programme allows children to discover, explore and practice the skills and knowledge they will need as sailors while under the leadership and supervision of ISA Instructors within an ISA accredited Training Centre.

Learn to sail

The Broadmeadow Estuary is an ideal location to learn the skill of sailing and enjoy what is ‘a sport for life’. Malahide Yacht Club has a proud tradition of introducing young people to the joys of sailing and some of Ireland’s best sailors learnt the basics on the Broadmeadows.

As an ISA-accredited Sail Training Centre, MYC runs courses for Junior members from Beginners up to Instructor level. The 2012 courses (application form is available from the Club Forms page) will run from July 2nd to 27th in two blocks of two weeks, from 9.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, by a team of qualified and enthusiastic Instructors.

Offering a mixture of fun, adventure and learning, the courses place a emphasis on getting out on the water as much as possible and practising all the essential aspects of sailing. The courses have the added advantage of offering a relaxed and enjoyable way for Juniors to make new friends.

The Club has a limited number of boats available for hire during the summer courses for those who are new to sailing or who don’t yet have a boat.

Once they are confident in a boat, the young sailors are encouraged to compete in the dinghy racing series on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons and are welcome to participate in race training sessions organised for the Optimist, Laser and 420 classes.
