The Broadmadow Estuary is an ideal location to learn the skill of sailing and enjoy what is ‘a sport for life’. Malahide Yacht Club has a proud tradition of introducing young people to the joys of sailing and some of Ireland’s best sailors learnt the basics on the Broadmeadows. Watching youngsters grow in confidence as they master the art of sailing is one of the great rewards for the staff at MYC. Our summer courses will entertain, challenge and stimulate your children as they learn how to master a sailing dinghy afloat – and have fun along the way.
We provide all the essential gear for the course – boats, buoyancy aids, wetsuits. In addition our instructors are very experienced, we have a fabulous clubhouse with modern facilities, underfloor heating, whiteboards, teaching aids, as well as a well-equipped kitchen. We are fully insured, and are affiliated to the Irish Sailing Association. We have an excellent safety record and pride ourselves on our superb reputation.
To participate on any of our courses, 2 options are available:
– Join as a Cadet Member (see our Cadet Membership Section) and enjoy all the benefits that membership brings, or
– Enrol on a one-off course and pay non-member rates. Temporary Membership is granted for the duration of the course only.
A big emphasis this year is on the development of keelboat skills for our older juniors. With this in mind we are running a Level 4 Adventure Course in June using 3 x J24’s out of Malahide Marina. We are also offering day taster sessions on these boats for members with Level 3 skills during the 1st week of July
And for the first time, we will be entering the 3 J24’s with a junior crew in our Outer Estuary Events – the Rockabill Rally, the Wicklow Vase and the MYC Cruiser Regatta.
All our IS levels will run over 8 weeks covering Cara na Mara for young beginners, Basic Skills, Improving Skills, Kites & Wires, Advanced Boat Handling and Racing. These courses will run throughout the Summer and are intended to progressively develop sailing skills where sailors can participate in other club sailing activities, and indeed external sailing events.
Offering a mixture of fun, adventure and learning, all our courses place an emphasis on getting out on the water as much as possible and practising all the essential aspects of sailing. The courses have the added advantage of offering a relaxed and enjoyable way for Juniors to make new friends.
