The Malahide Optimists travelled to Howth Yacht Club for their first team racing event last Saturday.
Unlike previous away events the weather was fabulous, blowing force 3-4 with tropical sunshine and blue skies.
Like a formula one race track, parents were able to view a total of 60+ races from Howth west pier. Racing involved two teams per race with the best cumulative result for each team winning that heat.
There were a total of 11 teams competing with entrants travelling from afar including Tralee and Cork.
Our fleet left Howth slip and 10am and did not return till 4pm, a total of 6 hours on the water but the heat and the intensive race schedule did not deter our feisty skippers
Racing was close, very close and at times the synchronising of tacking and close boat to boat contact was reminiscent of a ballet sequence… “Swan Lake” eat your heart out!
A fantastic day was had by parents and sailors alike and it’s rumoured that many of the skippers went to bed very very early that Saturday night.
Well done to both of the MYC Teams

MYC True Team Spirit
We were very fortunate that Sean Anglim, an MYC "veteran" of Optimist, Laser and college team racing events, kindly offered his time and experience to train our two teams the week prior plus spent all Saturday on our support rib coaching and motivating our team before each race. A big thanks to Sean for contributing his free time to our junior teams
Finally, away events are for all so if you would like to attend or require more information on the next event contact Colm Paul
