Each Member,
Malahide Yacht Club
Your Flag Officers, Ciaran, Colm and I, along with the Committee of Malahide Yacht Club have been liaising with each other and have carefully considered the position in regard to the ongoing dynamic situation involving the Covid-19 Coronavirus.
There are now 70 cases confirmed in the Republic of Ireland. Announcements were made today on the closure of schools, colleges and other public facilities from this evening.
The safety of all our members is paramount and we want to support every initiative to reduce any opportunity for transmission of this virus among members and in the Community.
Accordingly the Committee of MYC have agreed that all MYC organised training, racing and club events are postponed until further notice. This will be reviewed on an ongoing basis to assess the impact and a further update will be issued by the 30th March 2020.
The bar facilities at St. James Terrace will remain open in accordance with advice from the HSE and the Irish Vintners Association.
In the meantime, I encourage all members to continue to follow the guidelines which have been provided by the health authorities.
Bear in mind the nature of our sport, at this time, more than ever, our health authorities and the Emergency Services are dealing with an unprecedented situation. Please be conscious of this if venturing afloat to ensure we do not place additional pressures on these services.
Together we will get through this.
Daniel Flavin
Commodore
