JUNE OPPIE SAILING UPDATE M.Y.C.

We have been working hard to get as many of our sailors back on the water as quickly as possible. Unlike many other clubs in the Country we have a unique advantage with a safe and relatively sheltered location in Broadmeadows.

To begin with, we have been working with our more experienced sailors and are slowly now opening to all levels. We have been very lucky with some fantastic volunteers who have very generously given their time freely to help us achieve our goals.

This has been very much a work-in-progress, and we are very aware of the unique times we are living through.

We are keen to have a structure in place which would assist in developing our sailors (see below):

LIONS – Experienced Oppie Sailors with an emphasis on racing and attendance at Regional & National events. (Level 3 +)

TIGERS – Intermediate Oppie Sailors with an emphasis on developing boat handling, seamanship and racing for those that have an interest. (Level 1 – 3)

CUBS – Our beginner fleet of Oppie Sailors will work on the basics and core elements of sailing.

Please read the June Oppie Update to learn more about the Training Structure now in place for each of our 3 Oppie Groups above and book your sailors place here.

It is hoped that Racing will restart on Saturday 4th July in line with IS Guidelines for Phase 3. We will review our plans for July at that stage.

Thank you,

Paddy Ryan,
Class Captain - Optimist Fleet
Malahide Yacht Club.
