Dinghy Sailing: The Broadmeadows Estuary is an ideal location to learn the skill of sailing and enjoy what is ‘a sport for life’. Malahide Yacht Club has a proud tradition of introducing young people to the joys of sailing and some of Ireland’s best sailors learnt the basics on the Broadmeadows. Watching youngsters grow in confidence as they master the art of sailing is one of the great rewards for the staff at MYC. Our summer courses will entertain, challenge and stimulate your children as they learn how to master a sailing dinghy afloat – and have fun along the way!
We provide all the essential gear for most levels/courses – boats and buoyancy aids. In addition our instructors are highly experienced and all IS qualified; we maintain a strict ratio of instructors to participants: 1 Instructor and 1 Asst. to 6 sailors on all courses! We have a fabulous clubhouse with modern facilities, underfloor heating, whiteboards, teaching aids, including a well-equipped kitchen, spacious areas for rigging demos etc. We are fully insured, and are affiliated to the Irish Sailing Organisation. We have an excellent safety record and pride ourselves on our superb reputation.
As an IS-accredited Sail Training Centre, MYC run courses for Junior members from the ages of 6 (Cara na Mara) right up to late teens.
To participate on any of our courses, 2 options are available:
– Join as a Cadet Member (see our Cadet Membership Section) and enjoy all the benefits that membership brings, or
– Enrol on a one-off course and pay non-member rates. Temporary Membership is granted for the duration of the course only.

All our IS levels will run over 6 weeks covering Cara na Mara for young beginners, Basic Skills, Improving Skills, Kites & Wires, and Race Coaching. Keelboat Training runs from Easter to October. These courses are intended to progressively develop sailing skills where sailors can participate in other club sailing activities, and indeed external sailing events.
Offering a mixture of fun, adventure and learning, all our courses place an emphasis on getting out on the water as much as possible and practising all the essential aspects of sailing. The courses have the added advantage of offering a relaxed and enjoyable way for Juniors to make new friends.
