In alignment with this approach, the Junior Development Programme is a season long programme of activities, with the Summer (Junior) Programme designed to benchmark progression and develop proficiency through a range of Irish Sailing Courses and general coaching
Participants are expected to be actively sailing during the season to progress between levels to enhance their competence, which in the long run will produce better and more proficient MYC sailors. Those who have already completed courses in previous years will be encouraged to actively sail before the courses run from late June to late August. For entry to the 2022 courses, sailors are required to demonstrate their proficiency.
The above will be achieved through facilitated sailing and coaching to assist junior members to achieve the minimum standard for advancing. Tuesday evening sailing (starting last week in April) will be a Development Night with instructors in attendance and afloat to help hone individual sailing skills. On race days, Instructors will also be on the water to assist sailors on their techniques, tactics and racing skills, particularly those who may need extra help and encouragement.
The 2022 Summer Junior Development Programme which will operate in July and August is designed to complement the year-round development of Junior Sailing through Class Specific training and racing. The role of the Summer programme is to benchmark progression and develop proficiency through a range of Irish Sailing Courses and general coaching
