Join us at Malahide Yacht Club on Wednesday 19th November 2025 at 8.00pm in the STJ Clubhouse for the next fascinating instalment of our MYC Talk Series — an evening of adventure, exploration, and icy endurance with Michael Guilfoyle.
In his talk, titled “Watersport … but not as we know it”, Michael will transport us far from the warm waters of Malahide Estuary to the frozen expanse of Vatnajökull, Iceland’s largest ice cap.
This gripping presentation recounts his 1990 expedition across the glacier, complete with tales of extreme weather, teamwork, and the indomitable human spirit — all delivered with Michael’s trademark wit and insight.
A lifelong adventurer and occasional freelance journalist, Michael’s stories blend the thrill of discovery with reflections on travel, retirement, and what drives people to keep exploring the unknown. Alongside his Icelandic expedition, he’ll share a selection of earlier and later exploits that promise to both entertain and inspire.
Expect an evening filled with stunning visuals, compelling storytelling, and perhaps a new perspective on what “watersport” can really mean when the water is frozen solid!
